Black Cumin - Nigella sativa (also referred to as black caraway, nigella, kalonji, charnushka)) is an annual flowering plant in the family Ranunculaceae.
Black Cumin has a long history in folk medicinal healing and culinary use and is widely cited with rounded health benefits which can be attributed to its potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial action.
Containing in excess of one hundred medicinal components, this makes Black Cumin one of the most potent natural botanicals which is able to target and support a variety of natural bodily processes.
Archaeological findings indicate that the cultural use of Black seed dates back three millennia, with N. sativa seeds found in several ancient Egyptian sites, including the Tomb of Tutankhamun and in a Hittite flask in Turkey from the second millennium BC.
It is a widely used botanical now naturalized over wider parts of Europe, northern Africa and the east to Myanmar while originally native to eastern Europe (Bulgaria and Romania) and western Asia (Cyprus, Turkey, Iran and Iraq).
